Pancakes were around for centuries and are still enjoyed by many! The invention of the first Pancake is estimated to be 30'000 years ago. So even Cavemen did enjoy a sort of Pancake! Generally, Pancakes are made out of wheat flour, eggs, milk, sugar, salt and olive oil. I prefer to make Crêpes, but what is the difference though?
You might find yourself wondering, what the difference is between Pancakes and Crêpes. The visual key here is that Crêpes are way thinner and more of width then Pancakes, so they can be rolled up or be formed into different shapes. Thus a good opportunity to fill it with something more of consistence, while Pancakes are commonly mixed with liquids and topings like fruits and berries and are much thicker and smaller. Also, Pancakes batter is poured into smaller circles that puff up, while Crêpes are spread to reach the edges of the pan so they will cook very thin and are the size and width of the pan itself. Basically, it is roughly the same thing, but cooked differently. But I prefer to not differentiate between them, and just call them pancakes and call it a day... So here's my Way to make "Pancakes" :D
And they are ready! your own "Pancakes"!! Keep in mind that you don't have to stick too much to the recipe. You are free to try out several ingredients yourself, don't feel shy to experiment !!!
They aren't hard to make, but do acquire practice! Thus to speak:
"For the things we have to learn before we can do them, we learn by doing them" — AristotleSpeaking of ancient greek, poets like Magnes and Cratinus also did enjoy Pancakes and wrote about them in their poetry! It is indeed a lovely feeling to cook pancakes, and you should definitely try to make some of your own!
But Pancakes weren't always called "Pancakes". People first started to use the term "Pancake" during the 15th century, and it became social standard in the 19th Century. They were previously called Indian cakes, johnnycakes, buckwheat cakes or even flapjacks, since Americans usually made them with buckwheat or cornmeal.
